For those of you who didn’t realize, I should have mentioned this.

I’ve moved the blog to a new location. Another move, you probably think I’m crazy. I’m pretty confident that this new site I’ve got will last. Please check it out and go there rather than here.

The previous post was ironic…

Filed under: Uncategorized — creationcast @ 9:41 pm

Because honestly, now it’s been too long. Several months, I think? I’m so sick of myself and there’s no time to lose. SERIOUSLY (As much as I hate sermons that are chock full of statistics); it’s estimated that every 2 seconds somebody dies and goes to hell, every day thousands of children die of starvation, and I choose to leave that need unadressed and sit in my comfortable American workspace thinking about where I can buy another microphone headset? Am I some sort of sick joke?

I just got back from a really incredible week at the Momentum Youth conference up in Ohio (I could write a whole article on it, it was great) and since then I have felt so spiritually dead, it’s just rediculous. Granted, the conference was awesome, but if I don’t find a way to make continuity between the preparation it gave me and what it has prepared me for, I’m useless.

I apologize to Kary Oberbrunner in that I haven’t even finished his book yet. Picture sorting takes a lot of time but that’s no excuse when I’m sitting on the charter bus home and choose to socialize for a couple of hours instead.

For those of you dedicated rss feed subscribers I also apologize…I haven’t made nearly the effort I should have for this website. I know you’re sick of waiting around and then hearing me say it again, but things will change soon, I guarantee.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It’s been too long

Filed under: Photography, rants and raves — Tags: , — creationcast @ 11:31 pm

Hey all,

I feel as though I’ve let a lot of you down.  I can’t remember the last time I posted on my blog here. DO NOT THINK that I’ve given up on this site and moved on.

These last few weeks I have gotten some really incredible pictures…I just wish I had a better way to sort them and show them to people. At the bottom is probably my favorite one from my sister’s graduation, but there’s about 3000 others I have yet to sit down and really sort through. I also have a hard time throwing away pictures, and finally got a big external hard drive which will appease my habits.

School is winding down which is fortunate, it means that in less than a week my parents will let me purchase the domain creationcast.org. When combined with the power of Google Apps it will be a huge leap for this blog.

Sort of unsure right now what to do the next podcast on. I read through This Present Darkness about a month ago and it was great, might re-read that and do a podcast review of it. Currently working on Called by Kary Oberbrunner, It’s really coming along well too. My Bible study is going OK but I really need to spend less time on the Nintendo 64 (those old games are very addicting) and more time at the desk with a pen and my study notebook. I feel like a hypocrite when I teach something over a podcast and then don’t follow my own advice.

Alright, I’ve got to get some sleep. I’ll keep you posted with pictures and hopefully a new podcast.

Seriously, probably one of the greatest pictures I’ve ever taken. It looks tight when blown up, too. Maybe it’s God’s compensation for the baldy who decided he’d stand up right as my sister walked across the stage. Seriously, the three pictures that I was there to take, out of the few thousand others that didn’t matter…they got screwed because somebody stood up. That was a good story to tell people at the grad party afterwards.

This was the gem of my collection. Plenty of other cool ones but this is just so provocative.

National Geographic, I would totally submit the full-resolution version of this to you if you decided to make an exception for me and lower the age down to 17. Otherwise you’ll have to wait a few more months to feature it in “your shot”, haha.

By the way, I also got a job last week. Saving up for a d300 and the incredible 12-24 dx. Also have to pay for a youth conference trip to Ohio this summer as well.

Hey all, I’ve been busy lately. Took over 1600 pictures in the last two days. Plans for a big update tomorrow.

Took a tight self portrait that I figured I’d throw up here before I headed to bed.

A long overdue update

Warning: To those of you reading my blog for religious content I’m sorry to say that there’s not much in this post. Flip through to the end to see the pictures unless you enjoy reading my mindless photographic jibber jabber or are into taking pictures yourself.

Hey all,

Between my last update and now, a lot has happened. Let me run you down the list in no particular order.

  • Got to try out a D300 the other day. Awesome camera, it fit in my hand like a glove. The shutter scared me the first time I pressed it. The focus is awesome. Incredible colors. Yessir…I would be dangerous with one of these.
  • To be honest with you I really haven’t gotten much Bible study done. In english we’re reading Pride and Prejudice so that’s been dominating whatever time I have to sit down and read. I really need to re-establish a healthy habit of bible study. School is tough but that doesn’t mean I should waste the precious time that I have on the computer.
  • I have become a huge fan of all things nerf. Modification, dart wars, you name it…I’ll probably have sleuthed it out on nerfhaven . I’ve daydreamed about putting together a big game of nerf tag (like the one at Goucher college) at my school.
  •  Was able to make it to the Spring Musical “Beauty and the Beast” that my high school put on. That was quite a trip. My mom wouldn’t let me bring my camera because they said no photography…we get there and after questioning the lady behind the counter we realize she meant no FLASH photography. So with a half hour before opening act I ran home (my mom refused to drive me), nabbed my camera, and skated back with time to spare. Unfortunately the battery wasn’t fully charged (due to a little league lacrosse game the day before…) and at shot number 884 (FIVE MINUTES BEFORE THE GRAND FINALE!) the shutter release was disabled. I pretended to take pictures anyway simply to satisfy my burning frustration. According to Rockwellian policy I was just short of breaking the “ Without flash it ought to be more shots then anyone who uses this camera could shoot in a day” rule. Needless to say, I’m buying another battery as soon as I can. A catastrophe like this is not going to happen again. Sorted through most of the pictures today and despite being in the back of the auditorium I managed to get some pretty nice pictures, including one below of Mrs. Potts.
  •  Made it to a Boys Varsity Lacrosse game and stepped right on to the field alongside a photographer from some news publication. He said just to act like one of the press…and that they allowed 2 guys on the field at a time (making me the second man). Needless to say that made me feel warm inside. What was even better was the action I got to witness and have a go at capturing. Threw in one of my favorites at the bottom. EVEN BETTER – I’ve got an assignment for God knows what publication through some friends of my mom, but whatever it is…they want pictures of the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team. I’m STOKED. It happens tomorrow. I am so on this.
  • What amused me was that when I was out there on the field, or on my way to the field, or coming from the field, I must have been asked a half dozen times who I was with…as though people didn’t realize that I did it for FUN. Made a fake press pass in photoshop when I got home anyhow. Also messed around with a cool secret agent look. Seriously, I hope The Onion doesn’t file a lawsuit against me for fraud. I’d never actually use it, haha. I swear.
  • Whoever is into listening to music seriously needs to check out Pandora. Seriously, this is the greatest thing since the ipod (which I don’t own, hah! IN YOUR FACE STEVE!). You put in the name of an Artist or song that you like…anything from baroque (great for homework sessions, supposed to make you smarter? Nice to have on in the background.) to flaming viking death metal, and it’ll play songs that have a similar sound. You can’t summon a song on command but you CAN create playlists and add favorite artists, songs, and stations to your profile. Check out my cool profile here. Now all that’s left is for you to join pandora (or don’t, if you don’t want to make an account) and listen to music in a whole new way.

Enjoy the pictures, and expect another update in the coming week. SATs are on saturday so the prayer support would be welcome.

An open letter to National Geographic Magazine

Dear National Geographic,

I am a huge fan of yours. I love reading your articles, I savor the history in the making that you so beautifully document. Finding a map or chart insert with the main article is like finding the prize in a box of cereal. Your full page pictures, shot by some of the hardiest photographers in the world — they are eye candy to me.

But I have this against you — your “Your Shot” section requires me to be 18 years old in order to submit my work. As if being younger than 18 makes me any worse of a photographer? As if you couldn’t lower the age to 16, to account for the high schoolers? I finally find time in my day to step aside from Latin homework and waddle over to your site, I agree to sign up to your newsletter…I even considered opting in and letting your advertisers contact me. And then you bash me in the face after all my silent preparation and anticipation, and you tell me I’ve got to wait another six issues before I can submit my work!? Now you won’t even let me re-register as a parent or guardian. I’m blocked from submitting a photo because of my age. This is sickening.

You made my day this afternoon when I came home to find the latest issue in the mail and subsequently neutralized my euphoria when I realized I couldn’t submit a photo for your editor Mrs. Welchman to scrutinize. All I have to thank you for is this latest issue on China, which I’ll probably set aside until I finish the May issue of WIRED magazine. Attached below is a smaller copy of what I planned on submitting before you dashed my hopes.

Best regards,

Jordan

Lacrosse Game and Update

Hey all,

Just figured I’d drop in and post some pictures I took of my brother’s lacrosse game. As far as updates are concerned, I’m working on getting my own domain name (which would make me move the site again, but simplify the url)…and I’m swamped in homework, just getting by right now in school. To be honest with you I’m not allowed on the computer for another two weeks due to my grades so this has to be short.

I hate to shoot myself in the foot with my grades, it really sucked having to leave this blog for a bit because I was kept out of both youth group and the computer due to them. Spiritually you’ll find that it’s tough standing on your own. The retreat a few weeks ago was great, though. Got nearly 2000 pictures to still sort through and post up the gems from that. There’s so much to catch you guys up on, forgive me if all of this sounds sort of jittery or out of place.

Thanks for your continual support.

While my podcasts have been pretty successful so far, my current situation has called me to take a break from the computer for a few months. I’ve been stuck in a whirlpool of my own sin and indiscipline for the last few weeks and I’m sick of it. So today I decided I’d go medieval on the situation like Martin Luther did and cut the cord.

My school assignments will be hand-written instead of typed. I will do nothing but eat, drink, sleep, shower, and study for the next two months. Granted, I’ll pop in on occasion to tell you how I’ve been doing or post a few photos; but as of now I’ve decided to stop the podcasts until the retreat is over.

I appreciate your understanding and patience. Please subscribe to the rss feed on my blog so I can keep you updated.

In Christ,

Jordan
